Flood Resilience Support

We have delivered flood programmes for over 15 years, helping individuals, businesses, and communities to better plan, prepare for and improve their flood resilience.

Following the December 2015 floods, we have delivered the North West Regional Flood and Coastal Committee (RFCC) Community Flood Resilience programme across the region. We have worked with many Local Councils and Risk Management Authorities across the North West in delivering this fully funded programme of flood resilience support, to help residents and communities in their areas in becoming more flood resilient.

What We Offer…

Local Authority Support

We have worked in partnership with local councils and Risk Management Authorities to support their employees in delivering flood resilience engagement, advice and support.

We offer tailored packages designed to support local authorities to engage communities at flood risk. We also offer experience and support with the administration and delivery of Property Flood Resilience (PFR) grant schemes.

Carlisle City Council

The Flood Hub people worked in partnership with Carlisle City Council following Storm Desmond in 2015 to provide flood recovery and resilience advice and support residents with the uptake of PFR grants to better protect their homes against future flooding. This work involved engaging with many hard-to-reach communities and individuals, and supporting them through the PFR grant process. This resulted in an increase in take-up of the grant scheme and the implementation of a number of communal schemes funded through the pooling of available grant funding.

Through productive working relationships with Carlisle City Council staff, the Cumbria Community Foundation and the Environment Agency, The Flood Hub People carried out door-step engagement with over 2000 properties in flood risk areas, providing flood resilience advice and helping individual residents and businesses to register for the Flood Warning Service, develop home and business flood plans, and better protect their property and possessions against future flood events. The Flood Hub People also supported a number of multi-agency drop-in events, speaking to residents and providing ongoing assistance to those in need.

I wanted to write to you to express my thanks on behalf of the Bridge Street/Close Residents Association. The project we undertook to develop a Community Project to protect further our properties in Bridge Street and Bridge Street Close has been lengthy and complicated.
There have been technical issues and many Agencies and Authorities we have had to liaise with. Your experience of flood related issues and in particular your contacts with the Environment Agency have been invaluable.

Chairperson of Bridge Street Close Residents Association

The Flood Hub People have been incredibly supportive whilst we have been putting the Castle Street community Flood Action Group Together. Their approach is very calm and they have an excellent way with people which has been very useful in our group meetings. The Flood Hub People are very knowledgeable about the flooding issues in our area, how they link to neighbouring areas and also bring knowledge and experience from other Flood Action Groups from other towns to ours.

Billy and I thought we’d put pen to paper and thank you all for the help and advice you have given us and we are sure the rest of the Willow Park residents feel the same. Without all your help at the devastation we found ourselves in, we were grateful to know we had someone we could call at any time of day. Even now, two years on, you are still willing to give us advice when we need it. Thank you all.

Resident, Willow Park, Carlisle

The Flood Hub People have been great. Always ready to help no matter what we need. Keeping our residents informed is vitally important and thanks to The Flood Hub People we can do this via the Flood Hub. They are keeping us up to date on insurance, how to protect our homes and businesses, informed us about faulty flood defences, they have printed hundreds of leaflets for us to be delivered by our flood wardens.
It is really comforting to know that we just have to send one email or make a phone call and we get an immediate response, they have not let us down and we really appreciate everything they do.

Being business owners, finding time to deal with things is always an issue. The whole process was really easy once we started and the service from The Flood Hub People was impeccable. The local council has been excellent to deal with and very accommodating.

Business Owner, Padiham

Throughout being in contact with The Flood Hub People, they have done everything for us, which at our age would have been just too much for us to cope with. The Flood Hub People have been more than a pleasure to deal with and I cannot praise their efforts highly enough.

Resident, Ambleside

The Flood Hub People were a big help in dealing with the workmen and dealing with the forms. They helped me to get the funding for the work and I can’t thank them enough. I would highly recommend them.

Resident, Kendal

Before having my flood door fitted, I used to worry every time it rained. If I heard it raining at night I struggled to sleep and was so anxious. Now, I do not worry anymore and can sleep at night and stop worrying about it. The Flood Hub helped me through the process of getting quotations and dealing with the paperwork. Their help has been fantastic!

Resident, Staveley

The Flood Hub People’s assistance and support has been fantastic! They helped me to get some funding for flood defences at my home and others in the area. Without their help, we wouldn’t have any flood defences in place.

Resident, Carlisle

Many thanks for the work you are doing to help our residents.
