Flood Resilience Content Creation

We have a wealth of experience in creating flood resilience content for both websites and social media. Following the December 2015 floods, we have delivered the North West Regional Flood and Coastal Committee (RFCC) Community Flood Resilience programme across the region and as a part of this work, we became the people‘ behind The Flood Hub website, regularly writing content and creating resources, as well as the daily management of The Flood Hub People’s and The Flood Hub’s X, Facebook, LinkedIn and BlueSky accounts. Content creation is a service we offer both in the North West and nationwide.

What we offer…

Content Creation

Having written content and created resources for over 10 years, we have the expertise and skills to write flood-related content for other websites. We can produce in-depth and detailed written content for websites and booklets on a range of different flood related topics, such as those we have written about on The Flood Hub website which can be seen here. We have experience of writing for a range of audiences, starting as young as KS2 (ages 7-11).

In addition, we can write and create short and concise infographics which can be used both digitally and as a printed document, examples of the many infographics that we have created can be found on The Flood Hub’s Knowledge Hub here, for which we have written over 100.

As the ‘people’ behind The Flood Hub’s social media and focus weeks since 2018, we have a wealth of experience in creating flood related social media content for daily posts, flood specific focus weeks/campaigns and for during periods of heavy rainfall and flooding. Along with the social media posts, we can also produce social media graphics and short animations to go alongside these. We have produced content for our Facebook, X, LinkedIn and BlueSky channels.

If this is something that you would like more information about, please contact us on [email protected] and we can discuss your requirements further.

Education Packages

The Flood Hub People have developed education packages containing lessons and resources for schools and young people. These materials can be accessed on the ‘Learning’ page of The Flood Hub, by clicking here.

The first education package, which launched in 2021, aims to increase young people’s knowledge of flooding and flood risk management. Our second education package launched in February 2023 and is all about climate, weather and climate change. They are both pitched at KS2 level (ages 7-11), although a lot of the material included can be adapted for other key stage levels. Each lesson pack contains a PowerPoint lesson, a lesson plan with teacher’s notes, and resources such as worksheets or instructions which may be required for in-class exercises or homework.

Following the success of our first two education packages, we have gone on to create a third education package, aimed at KS3 level. This series of eight geography lessons follows the national curriculum, exploring the differences between weather and climate, global climate zones, influencing factors, and climate change. In addition, we have created a GCSE case study on Storm Babet and our UK Storm Top Trumps.

More information on all of the education packages and resources that we have created, please click here.

We are always looking to further develop our ‘Learning’ Section and have worked with other organisations to produce educational resources, such as the Landscapes to Lifescapes Digital Exhibition in partnership with the University of Hull, Lancaster University and the Environment Agency, as well as our Low Crosby GCSE Flood Management Case Study, which we created in partnership with the Environment Agency and Geography Southwest. If you would like to work with us on an Educational Resource or have a topic in mind that you think would be useful for us to cover, please get in touch at [email protected].

Despite the fact that flooding is becoming an increasingly regular problem, there are not many good resources out there to help teach the children to understand why it occurs and what it means. Until I came across your resources, I really struggled to find anything appropriate for KS2 – everything was KS3 focused. The resources were colourful and engaging and allowed me to get to the key points without getting too immersed in the detail which comes in KS3.

Teacher

I found the materials very useful because it has the teachers notes, worksheets and power points. Easy to adapt according to your year groups.

Teacher

It has been very useful and my class absolutely loved it!

Teacher

They were amazing and easy to use.

Teacher

Thank you so much for creating and sharing these materials on rivers and flooding. They are so informative and will really get the children thinking about the causes and impacts of flooding and action we can take to prevent flooding. This will also tie in nicely with work we do as a school raising awareness of the UN Global Goals with our children and awareness of climate issues.

Teacher

Thank you! I really enjoyed using these materials when teaching our environment topic on rising sea levels and flooding in the spring term. We teach rivers in the autumn term and I can already see these resources proving very useful indeed.

Teacher

It was a great resource as there isn’t much out there about flooding at an appropriate level for KS2.

Teacher

Thank you so much for making resources that can be used by a non-specialist teacher but to a depth that is needed.
